Lost Your Car Key Fob in Singapore? What to Do Next

By Uncle Thomas, locksmith since 1998 · Updated October 2026

Losing a car key fob is stressful, and with modern smart keys it can be expensive. Whether you've lost one key or you're worried about losing your last one, here's what to do.

1. Search smart

Retrace your steps: the last carpark, petrol station, office, gym, coffee shop. Ask building management and shops you visited. Check bags, jacket pockets and between car seats. If you lost it in a mall or MRT station, check their lost-and-found.

2. Is the car locked with the key inside?

If the key is locked inside the car, that's a lockout, not a lost key. We open cars of all major brands without damage, from S$100. See car locksmith.

3. Do you still have a working key?

If you still have one working key, this is the best time to get a spare made. We clone car key fobs, copying your working key so you have a backup. It's usually faster and cheaper than waiting for a new key from the dealer.

If you've lost every key, the options depend on your car's make, model and year. Call or WhatsApp 9224 9224 with the details and we'll tell you honestly what's possible.

4. Think about security

If your key might have been stolen along with something showing where you live or park, such as your IC, a parking label or your house keys, be cautious. Park somewhere secure, and consider changing your home locks if house keys went missing too. See lock replacement.

Dealer or locksmith?

  • Dealer: genuine new keys, but it can take time and usually costs more.
  • Locksmith cloning: a copy of your working key, often done quickly. Ideal for a spare.

Either way, you'll need to show that the car is yours, for example your NRIC and the vehicle log card.

Brands we work with

All major brands, including Toyota, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Mazda, Lexus, Land Rover, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Porsche, Volvo, Mitsubishi and Subaru. Find your brand on our car locksmith page.

Avoid it happening again

  • Always keep a spare fob at home, not in the car.
  • Replace the fob battery when the range starts to drop.
  • A simple tracking tag on your key ring makes lost keys easier to find.
