A lost letterbox key feels minor until you remember what lands in your letterbox: bank statements, payslips, letters from government agencies, new cards. Mail piling up in a letterbox you can't empty is also a sign to others that something's not right.
What to do
- Check for a spare with family or the previous owner if you've just moved.
- Condo residents: check with management first. Some estates use a standard letterbox lock or have rules about replacing it.
- Get the lock replaced. A locksmith opens the letterbox and fits a new lock with new keys, so the lost key no longer works.
Can't I just copy the key?
Only if you still have a key to copy. If it's lost, the safer fix is a new lock anyway: whoever finds your key, possibly near your block, can't use it. We don't duplicate keys; we replace the letterbox lock and give you a new set.
What we'll ask for
Proof that you live at that unit, such as NRIC with your address, a tenancy agreement or a utility bill. Your letterbox holds personal mail, so we check before opening it, every time.
Thinking keyless?
Digital letterbox locks open with a code, so there's no key to lose. We've fitted them on condo letterboxes. See letterbox lock replacement.
